P&R Kart Challenge Cup 2012
18 teams entered for what was to be our 16th annual 4-hour endurance event at the fabulous venue of Whilton Mill near Daventry. This circuit had everything to challenge the drivers from fast flat out bends to slow hairpins approached at fast speeds. Throw in the wet greasy conditions for qualifying and the first 30 minutes of the race and it became clear that the top teams were not going to have it their own way.
From the start of qualifying drivers had to deal with a constantly changing circuit. The last and first corners took the longest time to dry out and as luck would have it they were also the fastest corners on the track. Not now they were offered so little grip that had many a driver either off the track or quickly pointing in the wrong direction of travel.
From the start line into turn 1 is a distance of about 200mtrs and it was a bit chaotic for many a driver trying to go fast yet get through the turn which was wet and offered little grip at the time. Several karts went off onto the grass at this point avoiding the spinning
karts on the track. It really was reminiscent of the race at Daytona Milton Keynes in 2006 when we started under wet conditions.
4 hours seemed to pass all too quickly and it wasn’t long before we were toasting the winners from each of the two classes that raced. Many teams were all on the same lap all the way to the end of the race so the racing remained very tight.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their support of this event year in year out because we certainly could not continue to run it without your contribution and enthusiasm.
